UNiqlo redesign mobile (UI/UX)
Role:
- Solo UX Designer
- Solo UI Researcher
Timeline:
Personal Project Fall 2023 (estimated 2 week completion)
Overview:
Uniqlo's mobile site, has proved to be challenging to use and does not properly reflect the site's clean aesthetics. This reflection of aesthetics became the focal point of this personal project. I wanted to take an approach that breathed new life into the Uniqlo mobile app!
PROBLEM:
A globally known clean aesthetic with no proper relfection of its branding.
- Uniqlo is a globally recognized brand known for its minimalistic clothing design. Nevertheless, its mobile application may seem disorganized and hard for users to navigate through.
- The largest issues with the app are the cluttered layout and the hard to read text, with these two componenets lacking the overall application becomes significantly more frustrating to navigate.
Current Uniqlo Mobile Screen:
Home
Search
Login
Barcode Scan
RESEARCH:
Navigating Simplicity
The most suitable research method for this project was stratified sampling, targeting a specific demographic, Uniqlo mobile application users. I surveyed 23 participants to gather insights on the application's clarity, desired improvements, and its how well the application reflects Uniqlos public image.
Pie chart of applicant submissions:
- Most survey applicants believe that the mobile application for Uniqlo does not reflect the brands public image.
- Other survey applicants wanted additional features and improved usability.
RESEARCH SUMMARY:
- Redoing the structure of the launch page and home screen would be vital in order to make this application more user friends.
Learning how to implement simple yet essential features.
- Additional features would enhance the variety that the mobile application offers, differentiating it from other mobile shopping apps.
LOW FIDELITY WIREFRAMES:
Process work.
HIGH FIDELITY SHOWCASE:
Login + Create Account:
The initial login screen of Uniqlo is accessed via the barcode on its home page, presenting a significant navigational challenge for first-time users. When redesigning the screen, I prioritized the visibility of the login and account creation screens as the users' initial point of interaction.
Landing Page
Uniqlo's landing page originally presented a cluttered appearance due to the inclusion of numerous elements. To address this, I moved special promotions and sales navigation to the top section of the screen, while maintaining specific shopping elements to the bottom area.
Barcode Page + Promotional Page
Uniqlo’s original barcode page is navigationally challenging to find, above that there is no clear direction for users to find sales in store and online. This new redesigned page provides a barcode generator and a clear sales list to help users find the deals they need.
Dressing Room:
To really help Uniqlo’s mobile application stand out from most other sites, I created and implemented a vitrual dressing room. This is where a user can add an image of themselves to the left hand side of the screen while choosing different items they would like “try on” from their cart to the right. This feature also allows for cart edits and different photo uploads to really give the user an immersive shopping experience.

REFLECTIONS:
Uniqueness + Aesthetics: This project really helped me utilize that kept me within design boundaries while still forcing me think outside of the box. I had to make sure that this redesign still fit Uniqlo’s image while making it my own and proved to be a fun challenge!
Features: Working through this project I was taught the importance of small details and features, these can come in many varieties from readable text to placement of shapes. During this redesign I really needed to think in depth about the small feature choices I was making to really be able to emphasize the importance of this mobile redesign.
